Israeli companies integrate LiDAR with AI-powered analytical technologies to enhance drone detection capabilities

Israeli companies integrate LiDAR with AI-powered analytical technologies to enhance drone detection capabilities

2026-04-10

With the rapid growth in the use of drones across military, security and critical infrastructure sectors, achieving more accurate detection, identification and assessment of aerial targets has become a major challenge for the global defense industry. Israeli firms Innoviz Technologies and Cogniteam have recently launched a new anti-drone technological solution that integrates 3D LiDAR and artificial intelligence analytics to boost the detection and classification capabilities against aerial threat targets.
The system combines the 3D Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology developed by Innoviz Technologies with Cogniteam’s AI-powered software platform, which includes its AI-driven 3D analytics engine.
The two companies stated that this integrated technology can enhance the identification of aerial targets such as drones by analyzing the shape, motion trajectories, flight patterns and three-dimensional spatial characteristics of target objects.

By analyzing the collected data, the system can assist operators in distinguishing drones, birds and other aerial objects, thereby improving the accuracy of threat assessment and reducing false alarms. Innoviz Technologies and Cogniteam stated that this module can be integrated into existing security architectures, offering system integrators, defense enterprises and security service providers more comprehensive counter-drone capabilities and support. Yehuda Elmaliah, Co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam, noted that effective drone defense requires not only detecting flying targets but also accurately identifying their identities. "Our advanced analytics capabilities combined with Innoviz's LiDAR technology deliver detection precision and target classification reliability that traditional sensing systems struggle to match," said Yehuda Elmaliah. This collaboration is built on more than a year of real-world operational experience accumulated by both parties. Previously, Innoviz Technologies and Cogniteam have integrated Cogniteam's ClearZone platform with Innoviz LiDAR technology for missions including border surveillance, critical infrastructure protection and perimeter security.

The two parties stated that these deployments have verified the application value of high-resolution 3D LiDAR technology in security missions, especially in environments that require precise target identification and reduced false alarm rates. In scenarios such as airports, power facilities, military bases and border zones, false alarms may degrade system efficiency, while failure to identify genuine threats in a timely manner could pose security risks. By combining the technical capabilities of both sides, the system aims to further support future counter-drone operations and the protection needs of critical infrastructure. Omer Keilaf, Founder and CEO of Innoviz, said that LiDAR technology can provide defense systems with precise three-dimensional positions of threat targets, enabling existing security systems to respond with greater accuracy. "We are evolving into the visual perception layer within defense frameworks. Our LiDAR delivers precise 3D coordinates of threat targets, allowing legacy systems to make judgments and take actions with higher confidence," Omer Keilaf commented.
